Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice meant to increase circulation, strengthen bones/muscle, and promote internal peace. Every two months, we cycle through different forms meant to harmonize with the seasons.

Classes are held at Fit Athletic Club - Mission Beach (map)on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:00am - 7:50am and Sundays at PB Fitness, 4965 Cass Street, San Diego CA 92109 (map) on Sundays 2 - 3pm. Please scroll down or click here to view our online schedule.

Nei Gong (Static) Form

The form starts with a seated meditation, practicing to slow down our breaths, then starting to move the body in order to cultivate Qi or life force. Then we go into our standing posture, starting with Yiquan-based 5-element visualization (5 postures held - each posture for 2 minutes), then into Holding Post (3 postures held for 6 minutes each or longer), with a transitional Qigong Balancing The Jiao movement in between. This form is practiced January and February.

Warrior Qigong

Taking foundational practices of our Level 1 form, the Warrior's Practice focuses on balance, grace, and breath. This form is also called Level 2, but can still be practiced by those completely new to Qigong.

 

Warrior Qigong class includes:

  • Brief joint warm-up

  • Tendon-changing exercises with horse stance

  • Balancing exercises

  • Qigong Warrior's Form which includes

  • Full-body cleansing

  • Drawing the bow

  • Full-body spiraling

  • 9-Breath standing meditation

Five Frolics Qigong

Hua To's Frolic of the Five Animals Qigong is an ancient Chinese form that calls to mind movement of animals in nature, such as the bear, horse, monkey, crane, and more. Each of these movements enhance particular function of the body by moving a specific meridian, and the rocking movements allow for the release of stagnant energy. In time for the spring, we practice this form in February and March.

Five Element Qigong

The Five Element form combines the original Supreme Science Five Element form with Medical Qigong to balance the energy through all the acupuncture meridians. This form is great for opening the hips and creating more balance in the body through graceful movement from one side into the other.

 

The Five Element Qigong Form includes:

  • Brief joint warm-up and stretch

  • Tendon-changing exercises

  • Metal - Wei Qi Brush (SSQ)

  • Water - Medical Qigong Form

  • Wood - Humble Warrior Bow (SSQ)

  • Fire - Shoulder Opener

  • Earth - Earth Hands (SSQ)

Foundational Qigong

This form is the foundational practice of the Supreme Science Qigong System. With movements designed for increased upper body mobility, its primary focus is on proper alignment, posture, and breath integration. This form is especially good for building bone mass, strengthening muscles, and calming the mind. 

Qigong Foundational Form includes:

  • Brief joint warm-up

  • Tendon-changing exercises with horse stance 

  • Balancing exercises 

  • Opening procedure 

  • Empty Force (3 Levels) 

  • Earth Hands 

  • Around the World

  • Push Hands

Wuji Qigong

Wuji can be defined as the primordial emptiness, the balance point where duality does not exist, where Yin and Yang energies meet. The aim of our Wuji practice is to improve balance, increase our external awareness, and deepen our experience of the state of emptiness. It is about finding the internal stillness through movement, and the movement of our qi in the still moments.

 

Wuji Form includes:

  • Brief joint warm-up and stretch

  • Tendon-changing exercises

  • Qigong Wuji Form (the starting element can vary)

    • Qigong Wuji Form which includes Emptiness and fullness of the legs

    • Stepping the foot with very little weight applied

    • Gliding gracefully from one step to another

    • Moving the arms slowly through the qi

    • Looking from behind and increasing spatial awareness
